Gabrielle's Bridal Atelier

If you're in the Bay Area wedding industry or if you've recently been looking for bridal gowns, you likely know of Gabrielle's Bridal Boutique. Well, coming soon, Gabi of Gabrielle's Bridal will be making some awesome new announcements about her company.

You might be able to deduce some of what will be announced from this post, but I got her permission to show you these graphics...

Most of you know that I have a background in graphic design and I used to work at a video game company doing 2D graphic and computer-generated 3D art. Helping out local wedding vendors and designing/re-designing their company logos is something I enjoy doing on the side.

This is the logo for Gabi's fabulous shop that she commissioned me to redesign for her! Here are the original designs:

By updating the dress motif and redesigning the hangar while not altering the very recognizable script, I came up with the following new design:

Here is the full style sheet. If you're interested in having your company logo redesigned for 2009, email me or give me a call!

New Ads

This week I'm submitting all my creative for print ads that will be in bridal magazines coming to a newstand near you. I have three placements; a 1/4 page ad, a 1/2 page ad, and a full page ad in three different magazines.

I'm calling my Spring/Summer campaign the Fairytale Wedding Campaign. I think every woman - no matter how stoic or reserved they are in their normal lives - once they become brides, they turn into fairydust-tossing angels of romance and bliss! It's wonderful to behold! :-)

Well, every fairytale needs a storyteller. Leave a comment to tell me what you think!

MB's New Logo

Recently, I was flattered when Michelle asked me to help her recreate her branding. "I'm just a lowly videoguy - what do you want to have me do graphic work for?", I fretted.

Actually, I'm being facetious. My background is in graphic art so it was exciting to have a chance to do some stuff for someone else again. (I've been doing all my own collateral since the beginning and I'm sort of tired of it.)

MB was able to debut her new materials at yesterday's Promises and Pearls event so I'm happy that she really liked it.

What do you think?

Promises and Pearls Countdown! II

Two days away from Promises and Pearls.

I have a zillion things to do still - not the least of which are videos for my brides and groom! (They're so understanding and patient, it's unebelievable.) I've basically been working on collateral and marketing material for three people; Michelle (from MB Wedding Design and Events, who's hosting the Soirée), Jennifer (of Jennifer Skog Photography), and myself... (err... of Studio MSV.)

I made Jen's highlight reel to be played at her booth. I've designed Michelle's new logo and line look and I'm currently in the process of designing, printing, and assembling her collateral for the show. I've barely had time to make my own stuff! Usually tidy, my office is currently a shambles.

I've also had to construct a rig from which to hang my posters. It's actually an old homemade projection screen that I built out of PVC piping that I am repurposing for this show. It's not real pretty to look at, but I'm hoping the lights at the SF Design Center will be turned down to a romantic (yet concealing!) ambient dimness!

Some of Michelle's collateral has been strewn across my floor in order to facilitate quick drying. Pfft. How ghetto!

Seriously; all I have to be is a nine-year-old Cambodian kid and this would be a legitimate sweat shop.
Two more days! Gotta keep crankin'!

The Chenery House

Saturday was a bittersweet gig for me.

The bitter part was that I had to work really hard to make everything turn out right...

  • I had a minor misunderstanding and had to call in last-minute reinforcements to bring a video projection screen to the reception site.
  • I had a video capturing glitch that made me lose about 20 minutes of productivity during my Instant Video edit.
  • I didn't get to eat dinner because of the glitch that put me behind schedule.
  • And lastly, I didn't get to try any of the delicate dishes at the awesome dessert table! :(

But no worries, there were a great deal of "sweet" parts as well...

  • I got to shoot a wedding for kind and talented Melissa Saldua of Captured Photography.
  • I had the chance to work with her mentor, Vince Tarry, who was very pleasant to colaborate with.
  • I was able to chat briefly with the somti mes reclusive, sometimes excentric, always entertaining, Bob Pritikin. The SF Examiner said, "a minute with Bob Pritikin is as a month with anyone else."
  • I was able to get intimate with the largest private residence in San Francisco, The Chenery House.
  • My Instant Video went off without a hitch and was a big hit with the guests (and more importantly, the bride and groom.)
  • I got to stand 8 inches from a Rembrandt (replica?) and see countless other pieces of historical San Franciscan articacts and various art pieces said to be valued at over $4,000,000.

Please take a moment to check out the Chenery House Instant Video! The ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Peter and Paul Church on Filbert and Post. Comment below to let me know what you thought of it.

New Ad for Brides.com Magazine

I've been super busy lately trying to catch up on wedding edits. For those of you who know me, you know that I find importance in details -- it's a virtue that isn't particularly condusive to fast edits! As a result of busily editing and traveling around to Arizona and Los Angeles for destination shoots, I've not been able to keep up with the blog.

But here is a quick update on something that I've done lately:

Our old 1/4 page verticle ad in Bride.com's print edition, Modern Bride, is about to expire. I've created a new ad that fits within the same page format but gives a slightly different look at what we do here at MSV.

The new ad is supposed to give the feeling of class, artistry, timelessness. These themes are the very antithesis of the stereotypical stigma that wedding movies are usually attached with; cheese, tackiness, and anachronism.

Take a look and let me know what you think! (click to enlarge images)

Redesigned Web Page

Screenshot01I've been toying around with different web page designs and finally came up with one that is both easy to use and easy on the eyes. This new site should load faster and have more information for you, the bride, that is easy to find.

Hopefully this user-friendlier site will make your wedding planning experience that much simpler. 'Whatever we can do to help!

Here is a sampling of some of our old site designs dating back to 2003.

Choir Logo Design

In addition to the requisite filmmaking and memory-preservation, I also do freelance graphic design. (My background is actually in Computer Generated Imaging and Graphic Design.) Here is a sample of a logo that I designed for a local church's choir uniforms.

Tccbcchoir20design20samples1

The good thing about having a videographer that has a keen sense of design and a background in visual arts is that those innate skills -- a good sense of composition, color balance, and good aesthetics -- is that those things carry over to videowork. I see things that only good photographers and cameramen see, and am able to capture those things on film for you.

Additionally, when it comes to designing your DVD label or packaging, you have the added benefit of me having been trained in visual arts!

(Incidentally, the choir decided to go with design number two. Which do you like best? Leave a comment!)
