Blu Domain Photographer of the Year

Holy smokes!

Two of my best photographer friends have both been nominated as BluDomain's Photographer of the Year! That is so ridiculously outstanding that I don't know what to do about the information. I feel like I'm friends with celebrities now! hahaha!

The funniest thing about them both being nominated is that I see how they both are constantly seeing the same prospective brides and even their brides have the tough choice of choosing between the two of them all the time! Now the tough choice is placed on the shoulder of the voters. Frankly, I don't know what I'm going to do!

Jen and Augie, congratulations! You guys deserve every bit of recognition that you get - you work hard, you're passionate and you guys are super talented. Good luck!

Preston Castle Photoshoot, Ione, CA

Last week, I was invited by a group of photographer friends of mine to join them on a photoshoot in Ione, CA. Yeah. I didn't know where that was either. I Googled it and found it to be just east of Boufou, Egypt; in the middle of Nowheresville.

I shot a couple of photos for fun, but mostly I was there to film the adventures as they unfolded. (That's kind of what I do!) So here's the resulting video... part one...

San Francisco is Like My Second Home

One of the cool things about working for yourself is that you can set your own hours and it's likely you can cut down your commute to almost nothing. I work from my home studio so my commute consists of walking down a flight of stairs.

But lately, I've been spending so much time in San Francisco, it feels like my second home!

Then, on Wednesday, The Knot had a gala event at the SF Design Center Galleria and I was invited to be the official videographer at the event. (The fabulous Michelle of MB Wedding Design was the selected coordinator of the event! Great job, MB!) While there, of course, I was able to meet up with many old friends and meet some new ones! I snapped just a couple of pictures; here are some of them.

Then, on Thursday, I headed back out to San Francisco again to meet up with the aforementioned Kathy Goodman for some pastries and a chat just before heading off to a prospective client meeting in the Mission District.

Scarlett Lillian Vegas Nightshoot

Florida-based celebrity photographer, Scarlett Lillian (you can see her Take-a-Look Tuesday interview HERE) had a Night Shoot Workshop in Las Vegas not too long ago and I was there to capture the action!

Hawaiian Vacation - Day Seven

Monday, my seventh day on the islands, was spent on a Vendor Chic shoot with event planner extraordinaire, Evonne Wong. Evonne is a Bay Area transplant but now makes her home in Maui. So I flew from Oahu to Maui in the morning and spent the rest of the day shooting on a private estate near the famous Wailea beaches on the south shore.

^ It seems someone knew I was coming! That's quite a welcome. Aloha to you, too, Hawaii DMV!

Here's Evonne and me after the shoot. I'm a little sunburnt. I had forgotten my sunblock and you certainly can't rely on the locals to carry any. They're locals!

This is photographer, Matt Alvarado of www.abelovedwedding.com. He's very used to paparazzi, as you can tell. Jazmin, his lovely assistant (seen below,) is not as shy in front of the camera.

Here below are our models, Rachel and Mike. We initially only booked Rachel for the shoot, but a few hours into the shoot, I decided we really should have a *guy* model as well. Rachel called up her boyfriend, and within a few more hours, we had ourselves a hot couple to shoot! Thanks guys!

Cade's Vacation Blog

My puppy, Cade (short for "decade" because we got her on my wife's and my ten-year anniversary, and is pronounced like "Katie") is on vacation.

She's staying at Ranch Tinywater! Actually, it's not a ranch - Tinywater are phenomenal photographers, Caroline and Dan who have graciously agreed to watch Cade while I go to Hawaii for business and pleasure.

Last Saturday, Caroline; Dan; their friend, Xan; and I had dinner together and I gave Cade over to their care. Caroline and Dan have five dogs of their own and they're nationally ranked dog agility trainers with a great eye for dog/agility photography as well as wedding/lifestyle photography.
