A Minute of Rain

Yesterday was our first big rainstorm of the season.
It rained - no; downpoured - for at least twelve hours straight. (The "minute of rain" title refers, of course, to the video itself.)
I wanted to capture at least a little of my experience in today's rain. Here's the video.

The shoot
- Shot with Canon 5D MkII (+ plastic bag for weather-proofing)
- Shot with Sigma 105mm F2.8
- White balance set to 3100K (for a colder look)
- Except for parting shot, all hand-held, no stabilization
- I shot for about 10 minutes
- I never walked farther than 30 feet (9 meters) from my front door.

The edit
- Edited with Edius Pro3
- No color correction in post - exactly as shot
- No audio filters
- I edited for about 15 minutes (not counting transcoding, rendering, uploading, etc.)

Caffe Mediterraneum, Berkeley

I had the best latté I've ever tasted at Cafe Mediterraneum on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. Go there. You will not regret it.

I never would have found it except that I offered to help out a friend who was in from out-of-town. Here's a short video of the excursion.

Dork Energy Cheap Thrills

I consider bloopers and outtakes as cheap laughs. There's nothing witty or clever about it and anyone can become a comedian when it comes to a blooper reel, but you know what? We never claimed to be high-brow.

So here are some outtakes from our recent shoots...

Most of this was not shot by me. This is how they really are; totally unscripted. Tanja and Tia are always at it. Pay especially close attention to the last quips... they take a potshot at... at ME! Oh, if I didn't love yer crazy antics...!

Alright folks, thanks for being patient.

I have a whole series of fun posts I will be uploading VERY soon so I appreciate your patience! Between editing some awesome wedding videos; going on fantastic photo shoots with photographer friends; meeting new clients; interviewing possible interns; and a bunch of other stuff, I've barely been able to get to my Sweepstakes Drawing Videos.

So I apologize for the delay.

But, as I said, they will be going up very soon and I can't wait to post them! So stay tuned.

Why No Bloggy?

Here's a real-life account of the dialogue I had with my blog last night:

Me: Hey, blog. What's goin' down, vato?
Blog: ...
Me: What's wrong?
Blog: Nothing.
Me: Don't tell me, "nothing" - clearly you're upset.
Blog: Do you even care about me anymore?
Me: What?!
Blog: You used to pay so much attention to me. To the tune of four posts a week -- but lately I feel like... I feel like ...
Me: What?
Blog: ...you ... you just haven't spent a lot of time with me lately, that's all.
Me: What are you talking about? I'm sitting here every day for hours on end.
Blog: But you're never really paying attention to ME.
Me: I've been working OK? If you want me to stop working, there would be no reason to even keep you around.
Blog: !
Me:... sorry... I didn't mean that...
Blog: I don't even know who you are anymore.
Me: Look; I said I'm sorry.
Blog: Just go do what you have to do.
Me: Don't be like that. I've been editing client wedding videos; working on important marketing materials; a new video to launch my proposal videos; a brand new 'legacy video' feature; and a whole bunch of other things. Plus, I need to spend time with my family for the holidays! Not to mention the fact that I've hardly been sleeping because of the new puppy and I haven't touched a Playstation 3 controller for like three months!
Blog: Excuses excuses.
Me: Ugh. I can't talk to you right now.

"Shooters Wanted" or "Wanted: Shooters"?

I just read that police in Toronto have launched a program called Pixels for Pistols!

It's a gun amnesty program where folks can turn in their firearms in exchange for digital cameras and photo lessons! Can you imagine what the new wedding photography landscape in Toronto will look like in the next year or so? ha ha ha! Just kidding.

For trading in your weapons, you would get either a Nikon Coolpix S52 or Nikon Coolpix P60, depending on what you turn in. I think it's a kind of a cool concept.
