The Next Vice President of the Philippines?

Interesting turn of events. That's a phrase best suited to describe plot twists in mystery novels and cinematic thrillers.

Well, here's a plot twist for the event videographer... (excerpt from Philippine News Mag, www.inquirer.net)

"'I will definitely run for vice president. Nothing has changed my mind on this,' ... [Ronaldo "Ronnie"] Puno told reporters here on Monday.

Puno, who was here to meet with Central Luzon officials, has reassumed his post at the Department of the Interior and Local Governments (DILG) following a trip to the United States.

While Puno was on leave, Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. took over his post at the DILG in an acting capacity.

Questions were raised about Puno’s trip to the US and the appointment of an acting secretary at the DILG when Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita told media Puno was on medical leave, which the interior secretary immediately denied.

Earlier, Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said Puno's silence bolstered suspicions that he was on his way out of the Cabinet.

But Puno dispelled speculations that he would be leaving the Cabinet and that he went to the US in connection with his political plans.

"Senator Pimentel just doesn't know the many communications I had with the President while I was in the US," said Puno.

He said he went on a two-week vacation leave to attend the wedding of his daughter in the US and to visit his parents."

Rewind to July 4th: Andrew shoots a Sonoma wedding for his wonderful clients, Brian and Tami Puno. Unbeknownst to Andrew, Tami's father is Ronaldo Puno, SILG (Secretary of the Interior and Local Governments) for the Philippines. In light of the controversy and rumors surrounding his two-week leave to the United States, Tami asks Andrew is he can whip up a little wedding trailer depicting her father (in good health) enjoying his daughter's wedding.

Not to disappoint, Andrew makes this wedding trailer which is now being circulated by those who Tami and Andrew jokingly refer to as Mr. Puno's "handlers."

Who knew that a simple videographer would be tied up in such political intrigue and be relied upon to quell the swelling rumors of a political maelstrom! hahaha!

Dork Energy Cheap Thrills

I consider bloopers and outtakes as cheap laughs. There's nothing witty or clever about it and anyone can become a comedian when it comes to a blooper reel, but you know what? We never claimed to be high-brow.

So here are some outtakes from our recent shoots...

Most of this was not shot by me. This is how they really are; totally unscripted. Tanja and Tia are always at it. Pay especially close attention to the last quips... they take a potshot at... at ME! Oh, if I didn't love yer crazy antics...!

American Independence Day!

I like to say, "Independence Day" when conversation permits because sometimes I feel the name, "Fourth of July" doesn't significantly depict the gravity of the celebration.

Imagine if a group of radical thinkers decided to secede California from American rule. Imagine if they stopped paying taxes and wanted to become their own country so much they picked up arms to fight against the US military. We would think they were nut jobs and crazies!

But that's exactly what a group of American Colonists did. They saw that they were being treated unjustly by the government of their motherland and they decided to rebel. These folks were seen as treasonous traitors and more than one of them had bounties on their lives. But because these independent thinkers were strident in their forward thinking and held fast to their convictions and because the Colonial Militia believed in what they were fighting for, America was born.

 

If you have the chance to watch the HBO miniseries, John Adams, you'll witness a great depiction of the tumultuous times in which our founding fathers lived. Not everyone in the Continental Congress wanted to go to war against England. It was a bitter struggle and trying moment in history, but thankfully, their risk became our reward.

We should take a brief moment between the hot dogs and kites to think about the sacrifices that our our forefathers, our military, and countless others have made so America could be America and so we can be free.

All Work and No Play...

... makes Andrew a dull boy. :-)

This last week was a busy one for me - not only have I been editing like crazy and trying to launch a new project, I was invited to three different parties! It's always great to have some time to relax and hang out with great friends.

Let me recap:

Monday was Michelle's birthday party at Bliss Bar in San Francisco. I couldn't take any pictures there because it was too dark for my poor little iPhone. (I did manage to catch on shot outside though.) For many great photos of MB's party, visit Augie Chang's blog HERE. Maria of Professional Makeup Artistry, Skogie (that's my pet name for Jennifer Skog) of Jennifer Skog Photography, and Augie carpooled in my car from our 'hood in the Tri Valley to the City. It was really fun just to hang out and get to know each other better.

 

Then Wednesday I had a blast at my friend Tanja Lippert's house where Tanja and her husband Ryan hosted a great little cocktail party - just because! Tia Reagan, the other half of Tanja and Tia (a.k.a., T&T Dynamite) was in town from Oregon and it was great to see her again too. I can't name everyone that I met or that was there that night, but I was happy to meet some new friends like Jen from Jen's Cakes and Gabbi from Gabrielle's Bridal Boutique in Los Gatos. Gabbi and I had collaborated on a project but until that night, we hadn't met.

Sunday night was Laura's birthday party (Laura as in Laura and Beth from Dekker/Muse) and that was fun too. There weren't a lot of the usual suspects (because, I suspect, many people were still working receptions and such) but I did meet many of Beth and Laura's friends from back in their Sausalito days. A real fun group of people, for sure! Very nice, too.

A Short Promo Video: AWANA

AWANA is national Christian youth program that many churches use to supplement their church ministries. It's kind of like Boyscouts for church kids.

I met Stacie Tamaki, creator/founder of TheFlirtyGuide.com at a Martini Madness party a few months ago. After just meeting her a handful of times at industry functions, I feel like we've been acquaintances for years! She really is that warm and easy to talk to.

Stacie is sort of a web genius and hosts several different websites; including her web and graphic design site, her dog, Kitai's site, and other resource and advice sites.

Well, there is a site she's created as a resource for vendors and brides alike - it's called the BestWeddingBlogs.com (www.bestweddingblogs.com) and it features hand-picked wedding vendor blogs that she feels can help promote and improve the industry. It's a veritable who's who in elite SF wedding vendors.

You should definitely go there and check it out.

American Idol

OK. I will admit it. I watch American Idol pretty faithfully. I'm not proud of it but I'm not ashamed either. Afterall, there aren't a whole lot of shows that are appropriate for my wife and me to watch WITH my kids. (Actually, they don't watch it with me - they're asleep by the time we queue up the DVR for American Idol, but that's not to say I wouldn't let them if they were still awake!)

So last week I decided to drop David Archuletta as my favorite because his style is starting to bore me a little. I decided to go with Michael Johns as my pick to win it all. I don't necessarily think he's more talented than the others; it's just that I can picture myself buying his music from iTunes more than I can picture buying music made by the other contestants.

The most talented contestant this year is clearly David Cook. His rendition of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" was brilliant. I would choose him to be my favorite if I didn't hate his hair so much. Oh, and David, what do you mean you used to have a huge skull? Have you looked in the mirror or tried on a hat lately?
